About the Role
Skill Stand In connects skilled technology professionals with opportunities to evaluate modern software, AI, and web application work.
We work with engineers who can combine strong technical fundamentals with modern AI-assisted review. Our focus is expert judgment—we look for people who understand how applications should behave, can systematically validate complex workflows, and can clearly explain why something fails.
We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer to evaluate and validate modern web and AI-powered applications.
You will review browser-based workflows, investigate failures, and judge whether tests and application behavior are reliable and reproducible. You will not design or build products or test suites as the core of this role.
This role is well suited for a QA Engineer, SDET, Software Engineer in Test, or software engineer with significant automated testing experience.
You should be comfortable working independently, reviewing unfamiliar applications, and using AI tools to accelerate evaluation without relying on them blindly.
What You’ll Do
- Review automated tests and browser workflows for modern web and AI-powered applications.
- Evaluate user journeys, forms, authentication, navigation, and other browser interactions for correctness.
- Check whether assertions, fixtures, and setup/teardown produce clear, reproducible results.
- Identify flaky tests, race conditions, hidden dependencies, and environment-specific failures.
- Isolate failures across frontend, backend, API, browser, and data layers using logs and developer tools.
- Review AI-generated application behavior and test scenarios for completeness and technical feasibility.
- Document defects with expected behavior, actual behavior, and a defensible score.
- Work independently and asynchronously to deliver high-quality evaluations.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of professional experience in QA Engineering, Test Automation, SDET, Software Engineering, or a closely related role.
- Strong experience testing production web applications.
- Hands-on experience with at least one browser automation framework such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO.
- Experience writing automated UI, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or another programming language used for test automation.
- Strong understanding of selectors, DOM behavior, browser events, asynchronous operations, and network requests.
- Understanding of test isolation, fixtures, mocking, test data management, and reproducibility.
- Experience diagnosing flaky or nondeterministic tests.
- Familiarity with API testing using tools or libraries such as Postman, REST Assured, pytest, Supertest, or similar.
- Familiarity with Git and modern software development workflows.
- Strong debugging and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
AI-Assisted Engineering
AI is becoming an important part of modern software development and testing. We are particularly interested in candidates who know how to use AI effectively while maintaining strong engineering judgment.
You may use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI coding assistants to help:
Candidates should also understand how to verify AI-generated code and conclusions through testing, code review, documentation, and independent technical reasoning.
- Review and refine AI-generated test cases.
- Explore edge cases and failure scenarios.
- Evaluate automation code.
- Analyze logs and debugging information.
- Understand unfamiliar codebases.
- Accelerate repetitive review tasks.
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
Strong candidates do more than confirm whether a test passes.
You should be able to look at a requirement, understand the intended user behavior, determine what needs to be evaluated, identify edge cases, judge whether a validation strategy is reliable, and investigate unexpected results.
We value engineers who are systematic, curious, detail-oriented, technically strong, and comfortable questioning assumptions.
Application Process
Our application process is designed to evaluate both your testing experience and your ability to communicate technical decisions.
The process may include:
During the interview, be prepared to discuss real testing projects, automation frameworks you have used, difficult bugs you have diagnosed, flaky tests you have fixed, and how you use AI tools in your engineering workflow.
- Resume or professional profile review
- Initial screening
- AI-assisted technical interview
- Practical testing or technical evaluation
- Final team conversation
