About the Role
Skill Stand In is seeking Backend Developers to evaluate server-side systems, APIs, and infrastructure work used around AI products — including data pipelines, model-serving patterns, and scalable services.
This is a remote, flexible contract role. You will judge whether AI-generated backend work is correct, reliable, and fit for real traffic. You will not design or build infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
- Review AI-generated backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for correctness and completeness.
- Evaluate whether architecture choices would support AI training, inference, or evaluation workloads at realistic scale.
- Check integrations with databases, message queues, cloud services, and third-party APIs.
- Identify performance, reliability, security, and scalability problems in proposed implementations.
- Assess whether code is clean, testable, and documented to professional engineering standards.
- Provide structured review feedback, flag flawed reasoning, and defend scores against practitioner practice.
- Work independently on task-based assignments on your own schedule.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong professional experience with Python, Go, Java, Node.js, or a similar backend language.
- Experience building or reviewing REST APIs and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with AI infrastructure, data engineering, or machine learning systems is preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex backend issues and explain architectural tradeoffs in writing.
Helpful Technical Backgrounds
Examples include:
- Python
- Go
- Node.js
- Java
